The trend towards independent advice and specialization of asset managers intensified further in 2020. The demand in these two areas has increased significantly. This is shown by an initial evaluation of the ZWEI Wealth tender platform. For the year 2021, ZWEI Wealth is looking for a further 15-20 consultants as well as good banks and asset managers who want to collaborate on the future of wealth management.

Specialized asset managers grow faster than generalists

Private banking or wealth management is in the midst of change. The average private banking customer is choosing more and more specialized asset managers and less and less entrusting generalists for all their wealth affairs. This is the conclusion of an initial evaluation of the ZWEI Wealth tendering platform, where customers can find the best offers for their requirements. In three quarters of the cases, a specialized asset manager was selected in the tender process.

 

The evaluation also shows that the average customer today has a little more than two bank relationships and mandates three to five asset managers. On the one hand, this development is the consequence of the loss of trust in traditional private banking providers and in universal banks in general. On the other hand, it is the result of a lot more specialized offers newly launched. Overall, wealth management customers benefit from better and cheaper services thanks to the greater degree of specialization.

 

Demand for independent consulting is increasing rapidly

In this “jungle” of offers, independent advice and consulting service is becoming increasingly important in providing orientation and overview. The independent consulting mandates at ZWEI Wealth also increased by 75% in the same period and online advice is starting in the course of the Corona crisis to establish itself as an additional standard. Another indication of this trend is the increasing number of spontaneous applications from consultants to ZWEI Wealth. More and more consultants are convinced that they can better serve their customers as independent consultants on an open platform. We expect these trends to continue clearly in 2020.
