Young art at the "Villa zum Mythenstein"

19.04.2023

The Mythenstein project is a collaboration between ZWEI Wealth and Gerber & Stauffer Fine Arts. Our goal is to offer promising young artists from diverse backgrounds a platform in Switzerland to showcase their work to a broader audience than is usually possible in traditional galleries for young art.

Switzerland is renowned as a leading hub for the art trade, but emerging artists often struggle to find exhibition venues in the country. The Mythenstein project seeks to do its part to address this shortcoming in Switzerland's art infrastructure by making the first floor of Villa Mythenstein, the beautiful Zurich headquarters of ZWEI Wealth, available to selected artists for a year.

The first group of exhibiting artists include Maria Balea (born 1990) and George Crîngașu (born 1988) from the School of Cluj (Romania), whose graduates include internationally renowned artists Adrian Ghenie, Ciprian Mureșan and Hortensia Mi Kafchin. The overarching theme of their exhibition is the reality of young people's lives juxtaposed between a physical world marked by unprecedented uncertainties and a virtual parallel universe offering limitless possibilities and a fascinating – yet often deceptive – refuge. Both artists seek beauty in this confusing kaleidoscope of worlds: Maria Balea through a romantically transfigured focus on remnants of nature untouched or abandoned by people; and George Crîngașu through an unconditional devotion to the graphic possibilities of the digital world, in which beauty is often coupled to the twisting of natural law, the physical impossibility of architectures and environments. However, danger always lurks behind both the retreat into a supposed state of nature and the loud kitsch of artificiality. Neither place is a safe haven, and you can't drink from digital sources. At second glance, Crîngașu's Piranesi architectural elements grow reminiscent of medieval instruments of torture, and Balea's paintings reveal the absence of any shelter to take refuge from a brewing storm.

We publish a richly illustrated catalog for each exhibition and, where appropriate, NFTs designed for specific collections as giveaways for customers and visitors. After the vernissage, which is by invitation only, the Mythenstein art exhibits are open to the public by appointment.

Invitation to the vernissage
