When asset managers compete for clients ...

23.09.2021

... the services are getting better. What started as a small market experiment seven years ago, has now become an established standard approach. Today, the banks and asset managers have to prove themselves in competition. This year again, the demand for competitive tender services increased significantly.

Seven years ago, we launched the first tender process for the portfolios of a client group. The asset managers and banks in the market reacted with disbelief and negation: What is this request all about? Why should we submit an offer, knowing that others are also bidding for the mandates? Somehow and over a prolonged period of time, we motivated the asset managers to participate in the process, resulting in seven submitted bids. After a further four weeks, we completed all the information from the bidders, required to proceed with a fair evaluation.

Today, this event seems like a very unfortunate “blast from the past”. At present, more than 400 banks and asset managers are registered with the ZWEI Wealth platform. When we request proposals for client mandates, between 20-40 providers submit offers, meeting the highest quality standards and being well and adequately documented. Be it for assets of one or dozens of millions, the submitted proposals meet the highest standards available in the market.

From the very beginning of ZWEI Wealth to date, we found new investment solutions for assets in excess of CHF 4 billion by means of our tender process. This approach is obviously attractive and rewarding for good asset managers, delivering above average results in a consistent way. However, it pays off even more for our clients:

  •     94% of the tender processes were successful.
  •     88% of client investment objectives are fully met.
  •     85% of the investment returns were better than the market average.
  •     Costs for clients fell by 36 % on average.

How does a tender work?

No matter which investment solution you are looking for, an advisor organises and manages the process for you. In a call for tenders, offers from banks and asset managers are obtained on the platform, evaluated for you in an analysis and the most suitable solution is implemented.

  • Definition of a catalogue of requirements (RfP) and launch of the call for tenders.
  • Analysis of the offers and summary of the recommendations in a report
  • Organisation of a beauty contest with the best providers
  • Implementation (including price negotiations) of the selected solution and final check after six months.
